Ch. 10: Decisions

 

Inside of her room Vil sits around staring at the ceiling after the last run on the Tower as Maalik's question rattles in her head.

            "So Maalik wants me to join the Guts Guild." Vil says to herself before turning over. "But everyone here is relaying on me, what should I do?"

 

After a minute Vil gets up from her bed and walks downstairs and sees Pax sitting around looking at the fridge and looking over its contents.

            "What're you doing?"

            "Oh Vil, well it's about time to restock for the restaurant so I'm checking to see what we need and what we can wait on."

            "So are we going to hit the Tower tomorrow?"

            "Well no, we need a plan to deal with the Mossman and we want you to rest from today." Pax says thinking about things. "Sorry about that, by the way."

            "Well I'm still a little sore, but it's not a big deal."

            "Anyway, if you're going to eat something from the fridge just write down what you ate so we can keep track."

            "Okay."

Pax walks off with Vil staring into the fridge and seeing how empty it is before sitting down at one of the tables and looking off.

            "This isn't what I imagined what a guild was like."

            "What did you think it was like?" Kadin says walking up to her.

            "What're you doing?"

            "Just walking around." Kadin says seriously. "Maybe get a midnight snack."

            "Hey, I have a question for you."

            "You're wondering about whether or not to leave and join up with your boyfriend's guild."

            "How'd you know about that?"

            "I overheard you both talking." Kadin says as he grabs something out of the fridge. "I have pretty good hearing."

            "So am I awful for even considering it, I mean the three of you have helped me so much."

            "Well you can't always help everyone." Kadin says as he starts eating. "You can't please all of the people all of the time, so you just need to do what's best for you."

            "But what if what's best for me is to leave you all behind?"

            "Then do it, we've been on our own with just the three of us all this time." Kadin says seriously. "So just do what's the best for you."

As Kadin walks off Vil sits around looking at the table.

            "Damn it, why can't you just say yes or no."

 

As Kadin walks upstairs Naoki and Pax stand around waiting on him.

            "So you talked to her?" Naoki asks curiously.

            "You both heard me." Kadin says jokingly. "But are you sure about this Pax?"

            "We can't have someone who's having doubts fighting alongside of us." Pax says seriously. "If she wants to leave then we'll let her."

            "But if she leaves then we won't have enough people to take on the Tower and then we can't become an official guild." Naoki says thinking about things. "If that happens then we'll be out of it for another year."

            "Well that's going to be something we'll have to deal with." Pax says seriously. "But if she's distracted or if she has doubts then she'll just become a load to us."

            "He is right, the way she is now she can't enter the Labyrinths." Kadin says seriously explaining things.

            "I guess you're right." Naoki says relenting. "So then, are we prepared in case she leaves?"

            "Yes, it's the only thing we can do at this point." Pax says seriously.

As the trio talk Vil stands at the bottom of the stares overhearing them and trying her best to remain quite.

            "Looks like none of you can just make this easy and tell me to stay." Vil says to herself quietly. "If it's come to this, I think I've come to my decision."

 

The next day Vil makes her way to the park and finds Maalik waiting for her at a park bench.

            "Have you been waiting long?"

            "No, I only got here a little while ago." Maalik says as he starts to stand up. "If you want there's a cafe a little away from here that I think you might like."

            "Hold on, I want to get your question out of the way before we do anything else."

            "So you've made your decision?"

            "Yes, I've made my decision." Vil says before taking a deep breath and looking seriously at Maalik. "I will leave the Dragon's Head Guild and join you at the Gut's Guild."

            "Are you sure, this is a big decision." Maalik says approaching her. "If you want to you can give it a few more hours."

            "No I've made my decision, this isn't something I do lightly." Vil says seriously. "But everyone tells me that I have to do what I think is best for me, and I think what's best for me is to join the Gut's Guild."

            "I can feel your resolve, but I still sense a bit of doubt."

            "So you're going to deny me?"

            "Okay then, I welcome you to the Gut's Guild."

            "Thank you."

 

A while later Vil and Maalik stand outside of the Dragon's Head Guild guild hall with the pair holding onto large bags as Pax, Kadin, and Naoki stand around inside watching the pair.

            "I'm sorry for leaving you like this." Vil says bowing to the trio. "I know I made your situation worse than before and I swear I'll pay the debt that I owe you, I'll still work at the restaurant if you want, I'll pay you if you want."

            "That won't be necessary." Pax says seriously. "Just do whatever's best for you in the end."

            "We don't resent you at all." Naoki says forcing himself. "We expected this as a just in case."

            "Yeah, if you want to come back for the food we'll gladly serve you." Kadin says happily. "So no hard feelings."

Hearing the trio Vil turns away and then walks off quickly as they watch on seriously.

            "So she's gone." Kadin says breaking the silence.

            "Yup." Pax says dejected.

            "So then you feel okay brother?" Naoki asks curiously.

            "Yup."

            "Is the only thing you're going to says is yup?" Kadin asks curiously.

            "Yup."

            "Well then why don't we do something to cheer you up?"

            "Nope."

            "Hey look another word." Naoki says jokingly.

 

A while later in the upper parts of the city Maalik and Vil walk up to a large building.

            "Vilina, I'd like to welcome you to officially welcome you to the Gut's Guild's guild hall."

            "Thank you." Vil says quietly. "I swear, I'll do what it takes to make amends, I'm not like them I don't just leave people hanging like that."

            "Who?"

            "Oh just talking to myself, so show me around." Vil says grabbing Maalik and rushing inside.
