Ch. 8: Onto the Diumus pt.2

Inside of a small empty room a large blob floats in the middle of the air morphing and changing with every second as the door opens. Magister walks in with Flamma and Kaito following after him curiously, as Kaito looks around the room curiously staring at the blob.

“What is that?” Kaito asks curiously.

“That’s a Paradox Mineral; it’s what our weapons are made out of.” Flamma holds out her hand as her sword appears in her palm before she grips it. “It’s like the Errors, it’s something that shouldn’t exist but it does and we use it to fight them.”

“Correct.” Magister says seriously. “It is also the fuel for our ship here, so it’s a precious resource to us.”

“Yeah and it was a major pain scraping enough of this stuff together for you.” Engineer leaps down from above falling out of an air vent and landing in front of Kaito. “The Errors from your world only counted for about half of the stuff here, everything else is from our reserves.”

“You get this stuff from the monsters?” Kaito asks curiously.

“Yes, we harvest their innards to power this ship and forge our tools.” Engineer holds out both his hands as large gloves form over them as electricity sparks out of them. “It’s kind of funny to think about, using those bastards own powers against them.”

“Yes yes, it’s all fine and all, but magic is the rawest form of power.” A voice says behind everyone.

An old man wearing nothing but an old rag of a cloak holding onto a large staff walks into the room with a grin on his face, his bushy white hair seemingly shaking as he walks. He moves past Magister looking at the group before focusing in on Kaito.

“Ah, you must be the new boy, ah it’s a shame your world lacks Mana so your unable to use Magic.” The old man says somewhat disappointedly as he turns towards Magister. “How about next time you recruit someone you get them from a magical world.”

“There is nothing I can do but offer a hand to those in need, whether they are from a magically inclined world or not has nothing to do with it.” Magister says seriously. “Oh yes, this is Salvus, he’s our resident magic expert an excellent mage if there ever were one.”

“Wait magic? There’s magic now?” Kaito asks confused.

“Enough about that, we’re wasting time here, although time is an abstract concept when you’re traveling between time and space.” Engineer says seriously.

“Right, Kaito move your but over towards the thing and make your weapon.” Flamma says seriously.

            “What?” Kaito asks curiously.

“You will touch the Paradox and from there think of your ideal weapon, with that a weapon will form.”

“Yeah, and then you can start slaying beasts like the rest of us.” Engineer says excitedly.

“Like the rest of you lot, I rely only on the pure majesty of magic as the only weapon I require.” Salvus says posturing happily.

“Yeah but your useless when you’re in a world without Mana.” Engineer says seriously.

            “So I just touch it?”

“Yes, just touch it and thing, apparently.” Flamma says seriously.

            “Wait apparently?”

“What? I don’t remember when I did it.” Flamma says seriously putting away her sword. “It’s just something that’s natural to me, just go on and do it.”

            “Right.”

Kaito steps forward moving towards the shifting and morphing blob slowly touching the surface of the blob as his hands sink into through the surface. He wiggles his fingers through the blob as an odd sensation goes through his hands and throughout the rest of his body.

What’s this feeling? It doesn’t feel bad, but at the same time it doesn’t feel too great. Kaito thinks to himself as the blob starts to morph around him. So what kind of weapon could I use, a sword doesn’t suit me, a gun of some kind? But not something that’s to close I don’t think I could pull the trigger if I was to close.

Kaito opens his eyes finding himself holding a large sniper rifle easily holding it and gripping it tightly to him. “This feels right, I barely even thought about it and it just…”

“Yeah that’s the way it went for me to.” Engineer says happily rushing towards Kaito. “A sniper rifle huh? That’s pretty cool, well we’ve got another one with some range on them.”

“That’s something we can work with.” Magister says seriously staring at the rifle. “The Paradox would’ve formed into something that felt natural to you, and I’m guessing that is it.”

“Yeah, in a game I played I was the most comfortable in the sniper role.” Kaito says holding out the rifle and lifting it into the air. “I guess it’s natural to me.”

“Well that’s good, but I wonder what else that thing can do?” Engineer asks curiously. “Is it like Flamma’s sword and it does nothing or is it like my gloves.”

            “What?” Kaito asks curiously.

“Well no matter, let’s move on, we’re going to go on the hunt!” Engineer yells out rushing out of the room. “I’ll keep the scans out for a world with some Errors running around; we need to resupply our stock.”

“Alright let’s continue the tour!” Flamma yells out happily. “We need to figure out what room you’ll be staying in to.”

“There are some spare rooms in the back area, it’s a bit far but it’s somewhere to sleep.” Salvus says happily walking out of the room. “I’ll be headed towards the kitchen Martillo’s on kitchen duty today so it should be an interesting meal.”

            “Martillo?” Kaito asks curiously.

“Don’t worry about that, you’ll meet her soon enough, for now let’s get to your room so you can set it up.” Flamma walks out of the room with Kaito following after her. “Once you pick a room then we’ll get you a bed and what not.”

“A bed, where would we get a bed?”

“We have a few beds in storage, as for sheets you’ll have to wash them.”

Magister looks back into the empty room before walking ahead; suddenly he almost crashes down to the ground coughing out loudly. “Damn it, I’m running out of time. I have to find someone to work with Flamma before I can’t anymore, or else that girl will suffer again.”
