Ch.10: Field Training pt.2

In the middle of the city, Magister leaps down from above crashing into the ground below with Flamma in his arms with Kaito quickly following after him. He lowers Flamma to the ground and then peeks out of the corner to check for any more of the creatures. Kaito takes aim with his sniper rifle using the scope to check out the area in the air only seeing shadows pass overhead before lowering it and looking towards Magister.

            “Okay, it seems we’ve gotten away from it,” Magister says seriously looking back. “The two of you did well, but it seems as this might be a bit too much for the two of you.”

            “What was that? That wasn’t a typical Error was it?” Kaito asks concerned.

            “No that’s an Error who’s been feasting it’s trying to spawn more of its kind,” Flamma says seriously. “This one’s going to be a pain to take down, I really wish Cobalt and Azure were here to help out for this one.”

            “Cobalt and Azure?” Kaito asks curiously.

            “They’re two more of our allies; they’re out on their own mission so they weren’t on the ship when you arrived,” Magister says seriously. “Either way we have to deal with whom we have available here and now.”

            “Why? Engineer can fight can’t here?”

            “Yes, but he’s busy dealing with the ship keeping it running, and besides we can’t use the teleporter again without draining even more of the power.”

            “So we’re stuck here and we can’t leave unless we get the prize from the boss monster,” Flamma says seriously with Kaito looking at her confused. “What I’ve played games before.”

            “So what are we going to do now?”

            “For now we’ll rest a bit, and then later we’ll try hunting it when it’s lowered its guard,” Magister says seriously walking off out of the alleyway almost stumbling over and forcing himself along.

            “It’s getting worse,” Flamma says under her breath as she moves forward. “Kaito come on, and don’t try that turning invisible crap.”

Kaito rushes after her as his gun fades away and he walks up to her side. “Um, what was that? At first, I thought I was just using a stealth skill in a game and then I….”

            “You turned invisible,” Flamma says seriously explaining things to Kaito. “It’s your Paradox Skill; basically think of it as your unique ability, it’s caused by exposure to the energy that exists in between the worlds. If you’re wondering my ability is the flames I create on my sword and Magister can enhance his body to the point of invincibility.”

            “Alright, I think I’m getting my head around it.” Kaito looks ahead as Magister starts stumbling. “Is…..” He stops himself looking at Flamma’s eyes as they seemingly burn into Magister’s back.

A while later the trio sits inside of a restaurant as a waitress walks up to them taking their orders before walking off. Flamma looks on annoyed by the goings on as she looks at Magister’s face attempting to ignore the look of pain and weakness as she turns over towards Kaito.

            “If you’re worried about the bill doesn't, once we phase out they’ll completely forget that we ever existed.” She says seriously.

            “Okay,” Kaito says nervously sensing the awkwardness of the situation.

            “Don’t feel bad about this, in the middle of a hunt you’ll need to do whatever you need to keep your energy up so you can fight on,” Magister says seriously as he stares at Kaito. “We have one little rule, that we never involve ourselves with the denizens of the world more than necessary there are some minor exceptions that you can choose at your own discretion, though.”

            “And if you’re curious saving you was one of those tiny exceptions,” Flamma says seriously. “But we don’t take any random stray, you got that.”

            “Yes.”

A short while later the waitress comes back placing three plates covered with oddly shaped food onto the table as Kaito stares at it curiously. Flamma reaches out and takes a bite of her food and then looking at Kaito.

            “Aren’t you going to eat?”

            “Um…”

            “Don’t worry, each world’s food is indeed edible, it just might look strange a bit,” Magister says jokingly.

As the three begin to eat another loud cry goes across the area shaking the area and breaking any of the glass nearby. Quickly jumping from their seats towards the entrance where the creature from earlier appears perching on top of a nearby building letting out a loud cry as its smaller brethren gather around it each one letting out their odd screeches as Katio begins to turn invisible.

            “Don’t turn invisible, t stay at our side, that way it’s easier for us to coordinate our attacks on the beast together,” Magister says seriously. “Alright everyone take it down!”

Flamma charges ahead as flames cover her form and she quickly slashes into the creatures as they start descending from the sky into the swing of her blade. Kaito takes aim shooting out many of them high in the air before focusing on the ones outside of Flamma’s reach. Magister takes shots as the creatures over and over again taking out a number of the creatures.

            “Damn it, there are still a ton of these stupid things!” Flamma yells out concerned by the increasing number. “There has to be something we can do to get rid of their ability to make more and more of these stupid things.”

            “Just keep fighting we’ll…” Magister says as he quickly falls silent.

Suddenly he charges ahead of a knocking Flamma over as one of the creatures attempts to attack her hitting Magister with its beak and digging into his arm as he screams out in pain falling over unconscious on the duo look down on him. The creatures begin to descend from above at a faster and faster pace with Flamma stepping ahead gripping her sword.

            “Kaito, I need you to do something for me, keep those monsters distracted for a moment.” She says lifting her blade into the air. “It takes a moment to use this?”

            “Use what?”

            “My full power.” She says as flames shoot from her hilt and completely covers her arms. “Now, hold the line.”
